South Africa observes Human Rights Day on 21 March. This year marks the 62nd Anniversary of the Sharpeville Massacre wherein 69 people were shot and killed by apartheid police during a march held in protest against pass laws. The commemoration will be held under the theme: Protecting and Preserving our Human Rights Gains.

PAC and AZAPO are commemorating the day in Sharpeville. PAC’s Secretary General Apa Pooe speaks to SABC’s Ntembo Mokobo on the significance of the day.
