UNITED STATES HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL MUSEUM CONDEMNS RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER’S HITLER REMARKS
WASHINGTON, DC – The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is outraged once again by statements from Russian officials, first President Putin and now Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, that weaponize falsified history to justify an unprovoked war of exceptional brutality against the Ukrainian people.
“To claim that Hitler was Jewish and imply that Jews were responsible for Nazism and the Holocaust is an antisemitic lie of extraordinary proportions,” said Museum Chairman Stuart E. Eizenstat. “In addition to promoting baseless conspiracy theories and hatred, this obscene claim is a grave offense to the victims of true Nazism, the six million Jews and millions of other civilians, and cannot obscure Russia’s perpetration of mass atrocities in Ukraine.”
A nonpartisan, federal educational institution, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is America’s national memorial to the victims of the Holocaust dedicated to ensuring the permanence of Holocaust memory, understanding, and relevance. Through the power of Holocaust history, the Museum challenges leaders and individuals worldwide to think critically about their role in society and to confront antisemitism and other forms of hate, prevent genocide, and promote human dignity.
