This metallic paint, called Black Opal, is eye-catching and unique because it can change colors. This is not the same as the color-changing BMW iX. The iX uses the so-called E-Ink to change the colors of the car.

In Q50 Black Opal Edition, the colors do not change due to any electrode. The Black Opal Metallic paint can change between blue, green, and purple depending on the lighting and viewing angle. The Q50 Black Opal Edition looks so cool when it changes colors right in front of the viewer – all while moving at high speeds on the road.

Providing inspiration for this paintwork are opals, which are mineraloid formed from hydrated silica. The black opal is considered to be the most rare, striking, and valuable variant of this gemstone. Interestingly, the Q50 Black Opal Edition could shift into one of the most iconic and legendary Japanese supercar colors — Midnight Purple.

Adding to the coolness of the 2023 Q50 Black Opal Edition package are satin black exterior logos and badges. It also features a rear spoiler that Infiniti crafted from exposed carbon fiber.

Q50 Is Still A Mean Luxury Sedan With V6 Power

2023 Infiniti Q50 Black Opal exterior green shade — The Black Opal Edition package is available only for the sportiest model of the Infiniti Q50 sedan – the Red Sport 400. The Q50 Red Sport 400 is the exterior version of the Q50 Black Opal Edition. It comes with the most powerful version of the boosted V-6 engine. This 3.0-liter V-6 engine has twin turbos, an aluminum block and heads, and direct fuel injection. It produces just 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft peak torque for the Q50 standard model. In the Q50 Red Sport 400 and Q50 Black Opal Edition, the figures stretch to 400 hp of max output and 350 lb-ft of peak torque.

Infiniti paired the engine to a trusty seven-speed automatic transmission. This is not a feature that will please all, but it does allow you to send power to either the rear wheels or all of them.
